Dear Friends,
Welcome to the Dr. David & Bevelyn Mays Foundation's website. We thank you for your interest in our foundation and hope you will find our site to be a useful resource. There are three words that best describe the mission of the Dr. David and Bevelyn Mays Foundation ( The Mays Foundation) that will help you to understand us better-- dedicated, focused and driven. Every member of the foundation is dedicated to providing wellness screenings to the traditionally underserved in our service community. Every member is focused on raising health awareness and communicating useful, current information on health-related issues. The entire organization is driven by the collaboration of many individual efforts to make a change in target communities by developing and expanding preventive health services.
With several years under our belt, The Mays Foundation is a growing organization that is seeking to improve the health of the traditionally underserved in our local communities. Since 2000, from Tennessee through Louisiana, the foundation has initiated numerous programs that include Health Screening Days, Minority Health Awareness Forums and the development of a Federally Qualified Community Health Center. Our programs have provided tens of thousands of lower income individuals with free, cost-effective, comprehensive primary and preventive health screening examinations and services that explore the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other life-threatening ailments. These programs focus on early detection and prevention processes that can save lives.
In addition to our screening and prevention programs, we firmly believe in concentrating our efforts on education. The Mays Foundation has sponsored lectures and public appearances of important community leaders at local health-related forums and in schools. Our vision to encourage leaders within their communities to "become more involved" has resulted in our official sponsorship of many health-related conferences and programs. We have witnessed the success of these endeavors with the development of the Dr. David & Bevelyn Mays Community Health Center and the Baton Rouge Rouge Primary Care Collaborative, serving the underserved and homeless.
From all of us at the Mays Foundation, we appreciate your support and your commitment to improving our communities and the health of our neighbors, thank you.
Sincerely,
Spyrie D. Mays, M.D., F.A.C.S.
President and Chairman
